Timely Window Display

January was my turn to decorate the large window at Winnie & Tulula's. I've learned that merchandising is not my gift, and I tend to dread this whenever it comes around to my turn.

Since the New Year is all based on time and 12:00 etc,
I requested January because of my love of clocks. Then I began to gather and gather and gather clocks. Since August I've been buying any and all, reasonably priced clocks I could get my hands on. And numbers and anything clock related.

It's hard to photograph through a window but I'll try to explain what you are looking at. First I attached lots of numbers and a few clock faces to about 5 or 6 lengths of ribbon and hung them from the ceiling of the space. It kinda looks like a clock number party is going on. Then I brought in every clock I could find and I displayed them on this metal ladder and one of those circular garden pot holders (see the left side). I had Gloria leave up the silver streamers from the prior months display as well as the "snow and glitter". To the right of the ladder I had a wall space so I hung vintage clock faces from ribbon at different heights.

It's a black and Silver Clock Explosion

I added a few pieces of clock jewelry and some letter balls with letters X I and V
for the roman numerals you see on clocks. More metal numbers litter the floor, like confetti. The letterpress letters spell TICK TOCK.
It looks lots better in person and I hope that it brings folks in.

Happy New Year Everyone
Just a Note, Winnie & Tulula's will be open New Years Eve if you are looking for somewhere to go.

Treasures in the Mail

I hope that everyone is recovering from the activities of the Season, and getting back to the routine of life. I for one, love the routine, the normal, the ordinary.

Today I got the best surprise, a package, all the way from Australia. From my good, new friend, Tamara. In case you don't remember, we actually roomed together at the Junk Bonanza and she got to know what kind of junk I like.

Well today I got a fun fun fun care package full of &'s and a great necklace made by Tamara.

Look at those ampersands, the large red one is going on my ampersand wall at work, and I'm sure I'll think of something fun for the small printers type ones. And I love my ozzie necklace with a real ozzie penny. Can you believe that is a penny, wow it's big. They don't use them anymore (that's a whole other story), So I guess they have these floating around and Tamara put one to very good use. Look it's got a kangaroo on it. :)

Thank you Tamara for the goodie box.

Hope everyone has a great week.

May your Christmas be blessed with family and memories to keep you warm all year long.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold,I bring you good tidings, of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Blessings to you all,
Margo

'Twas the night before Christmas - out on the ranch

NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS-out on the ranch

'Twas the night before Christmas & out on the ranch
The pond was froze over & so was each branch.
The snow was piled up belly-deep to a mule.
The kids were all home on vacation from school,

And happier young folks you never did see-
Just all sprawled around a-playing their Wii.
Then suddenly, some time around 8 o'clock ,
There came a surprise that gave them a shock!

The power went off, the TV went dead!
When Grandpa came in from out in the shed
With an armload of wood, the house was all dark.
"Just what I expected," they heard him remark.

"Them power line wires must be down from the snow.
Seems sorter like times on the ranch long ago."
"I'll hunt up some candles," said Mom. "With their light,
And the fireplace, I reckon we'll make out all right."

The teenagers all seemed enveloped in gloom.
Then Grandpa came back from a trip to his room,
Uncased his old fiddle & started to play
Some old Christmas songs the ole' fashioned way.

Mom started to sing, & 1st thing they knew
Both Pop & the kids were all singing them, too.
They sang Christmas carols, they sang "Holy Night,"
Their eyes all a-shine in the warm firelight.

They played some charades Mom recalled from her youth,
And Pop read a passage from God's Book of Truth.
They stayed up til' midnight--and, would you believe,
The youngsters agreed 'twas a fine Christmas Eve?

Grandpa rose early, some time before dawn;
And when the kids wakened, the power was on..
"The power company sure got the line repaired quick,"
Said Grandpa - & no one suspected his trick.

Last night, for the sake of some REAL Christmas fun,
Gramps pulled the main switch - the old Son-of-a-Gun!

OMG, Mr Roboto get's lots of points for this find.

Mr Roboto knows the way to my heart. A local restaurant was getting their sign replaced and he happened to ask what they would be doing with all those old letters.
"Throwing them away" they said, but he rescued them for me. Now he should have put them under the tree, but wasn't sure I would like them. WASN'T SURE I WOULD LIKE THEM!

I'm just a little bit excited!!!!!!

OMG I'm saying, I can't believe it!!!!!!!

now that I'm home, I can take stock of what he brought me and all I can say is

They are now nestled safely in their temporary home in my storage building.
Oh the possibilities

Margo in the Kitchen, Oh me Oh my...Alert: Recipe Change

Alert: I forgot to tell you 1c raisins when this was first published. Please see new ingredients list below. See why I stay out of the Kitchen.

I decided to get a little homemakery and get to baking some of my favorite Cranberry Spice Loaf this Sunday.
For those who know me, you know that I do not do a lot of cooking. As a matter of fact it is usually my least favorite activity and to be avoided at all costs. But today I decided I needed the sounds and smells of Christmas so out come the baking goodies.

I love this recipe because it's fairly easy, usues easy to find ingredients, tasts fabulous, fills the house with spicy christmasy smells and did I say it was easy...

1/2 c Shortening (Or I use apple sauce in equal amount)
1c sugar
1 egg
1c raisins
1/2 c chopped nuts
1 3/4 c flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
and 1 can of whole berry cranberry sauce.

Cream shortening (apple sauce) , sugar and egg. Stir in raisins and nuts. Combine dry ingredients and sift into first mixture. Stir in cranberry sauce. Pour into greased floured loaf pan(s). bake at 350 for 40-50 mins

I triple the recipe and have plenty to share

Well, that's my baking for the year. And it is oh so yummy.

I Love Dug

Ok, so I know I'm behind the times, but I just saw the move "UP" and am in love with Dug.
As a dog lover you just have to love this talking dog of little brain. What I love most is that he looks so much like my mutt "Rikku". I can just imagine her saying the things that Dug says.
this is my favorite Dug Scene.

I love it because Dug has just been scolded, yet he still loves his Master. How often do they come back to us with love? If you can't tell, I'm a dog person.
Here's my sweet Dug Look-alike.

Unfortunately my little girl is getting gray in the snout and since we do not know her actual age, we count every day as a gift. She used to follow me around from room to room as I moved, but now she waits to see if I'm coming back soon. Her poor little legs have arthritis and make it difficult for her to move around as much, but her eyes are still as bright. And most of all, she loves me no matter what :)

Book Tree

I'm really focusing on "outside the box" Christmas ideas this year and when
I first saw this idea here I had to try my hand at it. Although mine looks more like a house than a tree, you get the idea.

I made mine with those old readers digest books with fun covers. Added a little batting for snow and some "gift" ornaments underneath. I need to tweek this project a bit to make it look more like a tree, but that is for another day.

Anthropologie has done something similar seen here

I just love Anthropologie Window Displays

Recent Finds, Ruff Stuff in the Barn

I've been doing a lot of finding lately, Trying to stock up for the slow winter months to come.

This is a great garden planter whichI promptly broke this item as soon as I got it home. the metal feet are really brittle and one of them just bent off. I'm still trying to figure out how to fix it.

Today I found these great old wine crates and 2 of these chalk boards.
the mirror was last week's find.

I love the decoration on this mirror

found this today, needs a little TLC but it's a diamond in the Ruff.
In case you wonder where I store and work on my stuff. I'm blessed with a storage barn on my property. At first we didn't know what we were going to use it for, but soon found it to be a great place for storing my junk. Can't keep paper or fabric items out there though because of the critters ;)
The barn has a section with a wooden floor, but most of it is a dirt floor. I got in an organized the wooden floor area last week, and now I can walk around.
See anything you like? Lots of goodies in there...

Yesterday I took this great old industrial typewriter stand to Winnie & Tulula's as well as the industrial stool. Not sure what I'm going to do with the wagon bucket there on the right, but I'll come up with something. I think it would be a great planter.

Here's a close up of the ends of those unusual wooden crates. I love labeled crates.

And this is the prize, this old trunk has seen better days but I love it just as it is. The raised metal panels, rusty patina, and chippy paint are just perfect. It now resides at Winnie & Tulula's waiting for a forever home. Wish I could keep it but I don't need more stuff :(

I'm finding lots of smalls as well. Isn't this old wedding cake topper from 1953 just delicious.

And these boxes of Shiny Brite Ornaments

Both of these items are available on my Etsy.
I'm finding lots of vintage Christmas and I'm listing it on my Etsy as I find it, so be sure to check often.
Hope you are finding many treasures as well.
Have a great weekend.
