Nice Weekend

My BFF (Penny) came to visit this weekend and we had fun touring the Historic Tyler Spring Home tour. We saw several historic Tyler homes, all decorated very nicely. Many with nice yards, full of azaleas and other blooming plants. I'm sorry but no pictures were allowed,
This is something I've done 3 out of the 4 springs I've lived here, and twice with Penny. One home in particular struck my fancy. Most of the homes were decorated in a traditional way, one was done with lots of primitives, I liked that, and one in particular was done in shabby chic. This lady and I would get along real well, I could tell. One of the first projects I noticed in her house was a shelf. This shelf was made from an old coffee table. The table had been cut, length wise, and hung on the wall as a shelf, It had one set of legs, hanging below as if they were still attached, and they were curved and carved. It was all painted out and distressed in green I think. I could tell it was a very interesting table, but it made a wonderful shelf. She also had some nice picture displays that were made T2T. One was a metal piece, and she used old clip earrings to Clip the pictures to it. In another room, she had a collection of old hand mirrors (like me) and she had them arranged inside an old frame. So guess what I did. I came home and my friend and I re-arranged my collection of hand mirrors inside a frame that I had.

I like this arrangement a lot. I have always felt that the mirrors were lost in the wallpaper (which was here when I bought the home), but I think the frame helps them to stand out. I could also paint a backer board and mount the mirrors on it, to separate them out a bit if I want to later. All of this without having to change the wallpaper, which I'm not looking forward to doing.

Here's a pic I took of some wisteria that was growing across from one of the homes we toured.

These are some of my Azaleas

I just love East Texas in the Spring.

and here is how I hung my metal star that I just love, from Hobby Lobby

well This week I'll be busy moving my booth and then First Monday Flea Market on Friday or Saturday. I've got lots of supplies to get so It will be fun to see what else I find.
Hope you all have a good week. Be sure to check back for pics of my new booth progress throughout the week.

More Junkmarket News, and Flowers and Friends

Ok, I guess I'm a bit of a "Fanatic Fan" when it comes to the JunkMarket Girls Ki & Sue. And you know about the new book (see 2 posts below). Well Ki has given me permission to dedicate this week's RoboJunker Journal to them and their new book. So be sure to check out RoboJunker.com

and there is even a special message from Ki to my readers on there. Both Projects this week are from them as well as information on upcoming events they are having. So check it out.

Also if you missed seeing Sue on the Today show this morning, you can view a clip of it
here
click the link on the top right of the page to view the clip. It may move tomorrow, but that is where it is right now.

Well I'm moving my booth space to a larger booth. One came available and I decided to take the plunge. I've got a barn full of stuff and no where to display it so there is no way to sell it. So I'm hoping this will be a good move for me. If you don't hear from me for a few days, that is what I'm doing.

I'm also going to be having my BFF visit this weekend and we are going to go on the town's Spring historic home tour on Saturday. Tyler is known for Azaleas in the Spring, and they are starting to pop out all over town. For one month every year, this place is abuzz with tourism and people viewing the beautiful flowers. We even have a section of town know as the Azalea District, with old homes, and beautiful yards, many full of Azaleas. March/April is a beautiful month here in Tyler. The Historical society opens about 7 historic homes for a tour every year, and it's different homes each year, so I am looking forward to seeing the insides of some of our beautiful homes and spending time with my friend.

Some finished projects (or almost finished)

here are a few items I've picked up over the past few months and ... what I've done with them.

Remember this Window I picked up last weekend and those legs I found in the trash?
We'll they've been married

I plan to hang prisms from the metal corner pieces when I get my order in..

Now remember this table bottom? And the Blue shelf there too.

I've added some scrap wood to the top and made it a ligitimate table again.
I will be sealing the top (due to lead paint) and possibly dry brushing a few areas white. This will be a piece for my booth. Oh did I mention that I'm moving into a larger booth space in April?

Now for that blue bookshelf. When in doubt paint it white.

And I've added a little margo touch (embellishments) to it and added a back.

Now for some shopping
I went into Hobby Lobby today for just one little thing, right. Well I wondered down too many other isles and came home with this gem.

I love the dimension to this piece, and the colors are perfect for my house

and it was half price

Then I found this little gal

I think I'll use her in my bathroom to hang necklaces from. She was also half price.
did I get the item I went for? No, they didn't have a stencil that I liked :(
But I do love what I brought home.
Ta Ta, I've got to go hang my star.

Junk Beautiful, New Book Review

Well the new, long awaited, book by Sue Whitney and Ki Nassauer is finally, almost ready to be released. I was able to get my hands on an advanced copy of "Junk Beautiful" and I just couldn't wait for it to arrive in the mail. I was checking my mailbox, everyday, like a kid waiting for Christmas. It finally arrived on Thursday, and it does not disappoint. I'm a visual person and so the first thing I did was to thumb through it and look at all the pictures. There was eye candy on every page, new ideas I'd never seen before, beautiful rooms that show off these ladies talents, not just as junkers, but as designers as well. I had to slow down just to take it all in.

Here's a peak at the inside of the book, I covered portions to protect the copyright.

Then after I'd looked at every room I decide to read the text. The goal of this book is to decorate every room of your home. So they've gone to several homes and "junk designed" different rooms in that home. You get to meet the owners of each house, you find out what their needs are for their space, and then the girls take you step by step through the projects. The photography is beautiful the text is easy to understand and the project directions are easy to follow. They've outdone themselves with this book, and it makes me realize they are in a league of their own when it comes to creativity and the re-use of junk.

Here's peak at some of the instructions pages, I covered portions to protect the copyright.

You don't want to miss this book, it is a must-have for all junkers. It made me want to get out in my workshop and start creating, and to get out to those flea markets and start finding. Get your copy today at the discounted pre-order price. Click the link below to order

Sue Whitney will hit the road with Junk Beautiful, See if she will be in your town:

And don't miss the Girls on Thursday on the Today Show March 27th.

Some People!!!!!

having today off of work DH and I decided to hit a few garage sales this morning. They were few and far between and nothing of real interest was found. The first sale we went to was a real dud, as we were leaving, I drove up a bit where there was a clear place to turn around. I did a 3 point turn, "turn, back up, and pull out strait", as I was pulling away, a man came out of a house, waving us down. We rolled down our window thinking he had an inquiry. He asked "what's going on here", I answered "there's a garage sale". At that point he replied very angerily that He was tired of people turning around in his driveway, and he had approached my car and was right up to us. His tone was very angry, and I thought it best to leave and avoid an escalation of the situation. As I drove forward DH and I heard a thud on my car and I assumed that he had hit it open handed as we drove off. Now let me say here, that I did not pull full into his driveway and am not sure I pulled into it at all. I may have 1-3 feet but that is all. I'm very conscientious of other peoples property and do not like to use driveways for that purpose. We drove on, tried to hit a few more sales and then headed home. I decided to look at my car to see if there was any damage and was surprised to find this.

A nice fist sized impression in my Junk Mobile. Well then we decide to go file a complaint with the police. First we had to drive by his house and get his address, then we drove to the police station and it was Closed. So we called and waited for a policeman to come and take our statement. That's all done, and so went our day, by this time it's noon.
Here's a few more pics of my hurt and bruised car

Maybe I need to get a junky car to do my junking :(
Well that's my adventure for today. For some great junk finds read the post below.
See ya on the junk pile.

Today's Finds

The Estate Sales that I went to were not very good, but I did pick up some books and a few other trinkets. Then on my way from work I saw a bunch of old trophies in someones trash. I don't have any specific project in mind, but I've seen a few, so I got about 10 of them, brought them home, took them apart and ended up with a whole stash of shiney plastic trophy parts.

Well my need for junk was not fulfilled, so I headed to a couple of my favorite places. At one I found this great item in the back room.

And at the last place I picked up these 2 screen doors, a 2 pain window,

and this great old cabinet door

I've already got a project planned out for it. It's missing it's top glass and one of the arched pieces, but I think I can work around that.
All in all it turned out to be a great junking day.

Something New for Faucet Handles

I just love faucet handles for projects. This is my recent Faucet Handle project

I love the "blue Jeans" look to this necklace. I'm a blue jeans kinda girl, and this necklace fits me perfectly. I had to glue the key down because I kept jingling with every step, it was getting annoying. Here are a few other things I do with faucets

I love these flowers and I've sold many of them. If you are interested they are 2.50ea in quantities more than 3.

I love the different shapes that these handles come in.

This is an outdoor faucet chandie I make, I also sell these for $15.00 ea.

I'm sure there are many other things you can do with old faucet handles, Keep your eye out when you are out junking, and don't pass these up.

2 estate sales tomorrow, can't wait to see what I might find.

Easter eggs

Aren't these ceramic eggs just wonderful.

They were made by the Uncle of one of the dealers at the antique mall. She had a whole basket full of them. I got these 3 in pastel and

these 2 in deeper tones. I just love em.
What a great item for Easter.

More adventures in junking

Well when I started this blog I said it would chronicle my adventures in T2T. Well at Friday's Garage sales, my car actually got hit. A man was backing up, and he never saw me, even though I laid on my horn he never stopped. I was stuck and with all the pedestrian traffic and other cars, I couldn't move out of his way. So bump went our bumpers. Fortunately there was minimal damage, Just a scuff that I can buff out, so we both went on our way. And I'm glad because this was a great garage sale. I picked up most of this stuff there.

See anything you like, just drop me a note. Flower frogs and black chalkware couple are sold.

Anyone know what this adjustable book stand is actually called? It's going on Ebay this week

More china for more swags.

These old tags are in their original bags

Lucky key find

Free wood from a different sale

What a great table, destined to be white, picked up at another sale.
It was a great Garage sale day and came with a story. Can't beat that.

And those 2 cute little dishes and some costume jewelry too.
all I spent today was $6.50 and I got all these treasures, Woo Hoo!!! And there are more sales tomorrow.

Here's my almost finished display cabinet. I still need some glass and lights.

Weekend Finds and a project in process

First I want to thank you all for your nice comments in regards to April's Country Home. You are all so sweet and encouraging.

I did pick up some really neat stuff this past weekend. I really only hit 1 good sale, but it was good enough for me to feel that I was done for the weekend.

I found this great old trunk

And these beautiful doll parts. Just look at her shoes and those painted fingernails
These are for sale, if interested just drop me a note.

And being the "former" fiesta collector that I am. I spotted these beauties. None of them are perfect but I got all of these for $17.00 and can easily make that plus some back by selling a couple of them. I may keep the yellow and large green bowl for awhile though.
I also picked up a pair of old roller skates and a few other things at this same sale. Had to get out of there before I spent all my money.

Look at this cute snail that I picked up for my Garden. they are at Hobby Lobby, and they have a cute turtle too. I know it's not T2T but I couldn't resist. It looks like it could be T2T though. I'm thinking about clock springs, I think I have one of those out in my stash. Hummmm, brain gears are turning.

And this is my current project. It's an old radio cabinet, and I'm turning it into a display case. I'll be painting it of course, and I need to get glass for the front, then light it up etc. I was going to paint today, but just ran out of steam. I'm ready for warm weather, and longer days.
See you all later,

Country Home Is Here

I was so excited when my DH called and said that my special order of 10 april issues of Country Home had arrived. I didn't expect them before they hit the news stands, but there they were, all bundled up nicely in a very well sealed box.
I opened the box, pulled out the top issue and began to search through it for my project. And there is was on page 12 in the community section. I know it's a little thing but it means so much to me that Ki Nassauer actually asked me to contribute this picture.

Well There it is, I had a lot of fun taking the picture, setting it up to look just right etc. My son helped me with the lighting, because a regular flash shot just would not do. Getting them a copy that fit their exact specifications, Pixels per inch etc was the hard part, and of course waiting to see if it would actually be in the issue, and then waiting for it to arrive. It's all been so exciting. This issue looks to be good. Ki has some pretty projects with vintage fabric starting on page 63. A couple of really neat T2T projects on page 74-75 and one I can't wait for you to see on page 88. So in about a week start looking for it to be out and in your mail boxes.
Happy Dance, Happy Dance.

Junk Swap, and cool stuff

I've signed up to do a junk swap on one of the groups I belong to. The "theme" for the first swap was fill a Basket-o-junk. My partner and I decided to mail ours on the same day, and they arrived the same day (yeah). I just loved opening my box and discovering all of this great junk.

What a great pile of Junk.

See those letters that spell JUNK

such fun.
Also I found this great pot (for plants) today.

I just love punctuation symbols. This will be great for my office for pens etc.
My awful day, did turn around, but partly because I decided I would not let a bad morning rule my day.
Hope you all have a great tomorrow.

Voting and a Funny

Well today is primary day for many of us and this is just a reminder (as if you need one) to go vote.

That said, I'm having a really bad day, but I'm bound and determined to turn it around.

Here's a funny that my DH sent me.

You know you're a Redneck when you wife is quoted in the paper saying:

Roadside Acquisitions

This is bulk trash week in my town, or should I say, Curb shopping week. Today DH and I found this lot just with a tiny bit of driving.

There are 4 table legs, and 2 drawer fronts. Just imagine those fronts painted white, and then sanded to reveal the dimension and then, perhaps a luggage pocket, or hooks for coats etc on them.
Who knows what I'll use the table legs for.
Then we stopped by my booth and DH took these pics

See the shirt, it says "JUNK gotta have it". I got it last month in Canton.

Then we stopped by another mall in town where I picked up this great hotel luggage tag.
which I promptly added to my "travelers" room, and then of course a picture needed to be taken.

Since i was in the artsy picture mood I
decided to take a pic of my vintage hanger collection

This room is doubling right now as inventory storage, so I even shot a pic of the mess

I'm still in the Lazy mood, so that was my Saturday, very unproductive. I did go out into the barn and straighten up a bit.
Take Care
